With a heavy dose of sensual decadence, the Chicago based design label, House of Bias, aspires to recreate the multi-faceted design house while specializing in modern materials. House of Bias' head designer and owner, Alexandria Taylor describes her line as "essentials for those who enjoy the pomp and circumstance of life".
This May was a busy month for the label. We celebrated our one year anniversary by debuting the newest season teaser in London. Our show opened the weekend of festivities for the internationally acclaimed Torture Garden during their largest event of the year, Birthday Ball. The following week it was announced that HOB was nominated for the European Fetish Awards for Best Start-up. Also in the company's credits are Kink In the Caribbean, where we produced a Resort 2007 show and previewed the Penciled In Deco collection for Playboy's Sexcetera in Jamaica. House of Bias has also presented runway shows for Los Angeles Kink Ball at the popular club Bordello.
The first collection is a wonderful fusion of early twentieth-century Art Deco through the brush of Tamara de Lempicka filtered through post World War II artifice and construction ideals. From foundations to textile development, modernity as we know it now was a concept that still possessed much of the craftsmanship of the old world. The collection is somewhere between 1920s machine age streamlined elegance and the pure glamour from the 1940s golden age.
House Of Bias sought fellow Chicago native, photographer Jeffrey David Cohn for visual presentation. The label was ecstatic to have the artist on board. Cohn's signature style encapsulates Penciled In Deco. Moments wrought with the luxe drama of yesteryear's film starlets caught in his personal studio, the quintessential steampunk playground, the factory.
Cohn's portfolio features a heavy mix of easily recognizable faces, from the nouveau Angela Ryan + Ancilla Tilia; To the pillars of the scene such as Kumi + Persephone. The photographer has been recently featured in Erotic Signature vol. 2, the Art Undressed tour where he is currently showing four images, A magazine, a four page spread in the latest Secret Anthology and has been featured at length on Tony Mitchell's The Fetishistas and Sexy Latex.
Since the collaboration began, the team has gotten the opportunity to work with some of the industry's most acclaimed models. This includes Dutch Playboy model, Bizarre/FHM/Marquis cover model Ancilla Tilia and current Leg Show covergirl Angela Ryan. Cohn and Taylor made it a priority to work with talent from their city as well. Chicago, which was once a hub in the fetish scene, is in the process of a resurgence. At the forefront of this movement are some of the faces of this campaign.
Welcome to HOUSE OF BIAS by Jeffery David Cohn.
